So, my husband, I and Z ( our viking ninja) has finally made a big move.
We moved from a long-year lived apartment to a single house!!!!!
There are some culture differences that I had clearly noticed, about “moving”.
So today’s cartoon I want to share my experience!
I have moving experiences in 3 countries…. USA, Denmark and Japan.
In Japan you pack and move EVERYTHING.
Yes, in Japan appliances – washer, fridge, oven, gas stove —- you buy your own, and you have to move them all.
You can’t even cook dinner Day 1, if you don’t have own gas stove!
I think larger family-type apartments may have own kitchen installed, but at least, if you are renting a place for 1 or 2 people,
So when I moved in USA or Denmark, I felt easier because we don’t need to move those. They are heavy and tricky to deal with, you know!?
Room Lights or it’s pitch black
Denmark is a country of ‘lights” . They have a passion for room lights, everybody has “my own lights”. …Look at all the high-Danish lighting brands… expensive and beautiful. (except you hit your head )
I was surprised that the apartment is …. pitch black at night, if you don’t have your own lights !
In Japan or USA the room lights are already installed. I guess we care less about lighting 😉
(but then, I spoke with a Japanese friend / she said she had to buy / bring EVERYTHING to her old apartment….so in Japan, if it’s the apartment is old…. it’s basically a “box room” with nothing included…. ouch!)
What to do with the walls?
Walls get dirty after living for years.
When I lived in America, a friend told me that you could put toothpaste in holes in the walls 😅to cover.
I was surprised that in Denmark, they don’t bother because they’ll paint over all the walls anyways. so it was nice.
This is the same as all the country but you need to clean before move.
This song kept going on in my head while I was cleaning. (never ending story, Limahl 1984 )
I had no idea that cleaning can be never ending. I thought I could “just” finish within a few days….
WAS I WRONG!!!!!!
There’s always something that you can clean more.
I seriously had a friend over almost everyday to clean. I have probably spent 60 hours+ or so on cleaning.
If you are planning on moving and need to clean your old apartment…. expect you’d need a lot of time for it, if you want your deposit money back!! My strong advice.
But now, we’re moved in to our HOUSE!
We’re still living with boxes 😅but it’s such a relief to get over with the move.
